That is about to change.

The airline is launching BlueFirst, its first true domestic first-class cabin, beginning December 8, 2026, on flights between Boston and Fort Lauderdale. From there, the product will spread rapidly across JetBlue’s network, reaching more than 30 routes during 2027.

For travelers, the move fills a major gap in JetBlue’s lineup. Passengers who wanted something better than economy on shorter domestic flights often had no equivalent to the traditional First Class cabins offered by American, Delta and United.

BlueFirst changes that.

JetBlue is putting real First Class seats on routes where Mint was never an option

BlueFirst will use a familiar U.S. first-class configuration: two seats on each side of the aisle instead of the tighter three-across seating found in economy.

The seats will offer up to seven inches more legroom than JetBlue’s standard Main cabin seats and up to five inches of recline. Each passenger will also get a 13.3-inch seatback screen, Bluetooth connectivity, free high-speed Wi-Fi and in-seat power.

The experience goes beyond the seat.

On flights of at least 899 miles, BlueFirst passengers will receive a complimentary meal with an entrée, side and dessert. Premium snacks and drinks will also be offered, along with wines, specialty coffee and other upgraded beverage options.

Passengers will receive priority check-in, Group 1 boarding, dedicated overhead bin space and priority baggage handling. Expedited access toward security will also be available at more than 30 participating airports.

In other words, JetBlue is no longer simply selling passengers a bigger seat at the front of the plane. It is building the kind of bundled premium experience U.S. travelers already expect from domestic First Class.

— Gate7 (@Gate7aviation) October 25, 2026

The first seats start at surprisingly low prices, but JetBlue is going after a much bigger prize

BlueFirst’s first commercial flight will operate from Boston Logan to Fort Lauderdale on December 8.

JetBlue has also advertised introductory one-way fares as low as $249 on selected routes. Initial promotional pricing included $299 between Boston and Fort Lauderdale and $249 between New York-LaGuardia and Fort Lauderdale.

Availability at those prices is limited, but the fares reveal something important about JetBlue’s strategy.

The airline does not appear to be positioning BlueFirst as an ultra-exclusive product. Instead, it wants to make upgrading tempting enough for leisure travelers who might normally stay in economy but are willing to spend more for additional space and convenience.

That could make BlueFirst particularly relevant on routes to Florida, the Caribbean and Latin America, where JetBlue carries large numbers of vacationers who may be more willing to pay for a premium seat at the start of a trip.

The rollout will initially focus heavily on Fort Lauderdale, Boston and New York. Routes to Austin, Nashville, Houston, Orlando, San Juan, Cancun, Aruba and several Caribbean and Latin American destinations are among those scheduled to receive BlueFirst as additional aircraft are equipped.

BlueFirst is not replacing Mint, and that distinction explains JetBlue’s new premium strategy

JetBlue already has one of the strongest premium products among U.S. airlines in Mint, which includes lie-flat seats and, on some aircraft, private suites.

But Mint was never designed to appear throughout the entire domestic network.

BlueFirst gives JetBlue a second premium product for the much larger number of routes where a lie-flat business-class cabin would make little economic sense.

A passenger flying a longer transcontinental or international route may still encounter Mint. Someone flying Boston to Florida, New York to the Caribbean or Fort Lauderdale to another U.S. city could increasingly find BlueFirst instead.

That puts JetBlue into much more direct competition with American, Delta and United, all of which generate significant revenue from travelers willing to pay for larger seats, priority services and better food without necessarily needing a lie-flat bed.

It also comes as U.S. airlines increasingly focus on premium customers. Travelers buying upgraded cabins, extra-legroom seats, lounge access and other higher-end products have become an increasingly important part of airline revenue strategies.

For JetBlue, BlueFirst provides a way to capture more of that spending without abandoning the economy product on which the airline built its reputation.

For passengers, the change is simpler.

Starting this December, seeing “First Class” on a JetBlue booking will no longer mean wondering whether the route happens to have Mint. A conventional premium cabin is finally becoming part of the airline’s everyday network, and by 2027, millions more travelers could have the option to pay their way into it.

JetBlue is about to make flying up front feel a lot more attainable, with a new First Class starting at $249 and rolling out across more than 30 routes.

[3

post-133","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-travel
["GET
