Toronto is turning an old runway into a 2 km city park
Toronto is turning a closed airport into a place people will actually want to live in. Downsview Airport (code YZD) shut down in 2024, and the site is now planned as a new green district built around one striking idea: keeping the runway and converting it into a 2 km public promenade. Over time, the project aims to welcome around 50,000 residents across seven neighbourhoods, developed in phases over several decades.
